G Squared Ceiling Fans and Lights Ordering Instructions
Here are some tips on ordering our ceiling fans:Size: The fan blade sweep is the measurement from blade tip to blade tip. The most important consideration here is to make sure that you mount the fan to allow at least 15 inches of distance from the blade tip to the closest wall. Other than that, you can put a full size ceiling fan into a room as small as 8 feet by 8 feet or as large as 20 by 20 depending upon your ventilation needs. If you are concerned about the ceiling fan looking too large in a smaller room, consider that a well proportioned ceiling fan will look great even in a small space, especially if it is one of the models with a smaller "body" like the San Francisco, Flyte, or Acero. The Gyro also looks great in a smaller space. When considering how many ceiling fans you will need for a larger space, consider your ventilation needs and the functional areas of the space.
Use: We recommend using only UL wet location fans in areas that are exposed to the elements such as a patios or covered porches. These UL wet location ceiling fans are especially constructed to withstand higher humidity so they will last much longer than other fans.
Mounting height: The most important consideration here is to make sure that the fan blades are at least 7 feet above the floor for safety. The dimensions that we give on our website of hanging distance are the dimensions from the mounting point on the ceiling to the very bottom of the fan which is often a few inches more than the distance to the blades. All of our fans except for the Flyte are safe to use in a room with 8 foot ceilings; the San Francisco ceiling fan is OK for 8 foot ceilings with the accessory 6" downrod. The Flyte fan with the 6" downrod is safe to use in a room with 8 foot 3 inch ceilings. As far as efficiency, the fan will mix the air well at any height, even with a short downrod. With a higher ceiling, the mounting height of the fan becomes more of an aesthetic choice. Some considerations here are that the breezes produced by the fan will be felt more strongly if the fan is closer to the floor and also the consideration of whether the room has a balcony so that you might want to place the fan high enough so that no one can see the top.
Lights: Many of our ceiling fans have removable light kits. Currently, the fan with the most light that we offer is the Airus ceiling fan. It has both an uplight of 150 watts and a downlight of 100 watts; both lights are independently infinitely dimmable. The Como would be next at 150 watts. All of the other fans except for the Gauguin and Cirque have 100 watt lights - the Gauguin and Cirque have 50 watt lights. All of the lights are halogen and are infinitely dimmable.
Control systems: All of the fans except for the Concept II come with wall switches that work by radio frequency and send signals to a receiver in the top portion of the fan near the ceiling (the canopy). The Concept II comes with a hand-held remote. You may want to consider ordering an accessory hand held remote with your fan, especially if you are using it in a bedroom or living room. You also may want to consider ordering the accessory wall switch with the Concept II fan to avoid the problem of possibly losing the remote. Either control, wall or hand held, will control all fans within 40 to 100 feet of the controller. If you do not want this to happen, you can change the frequency of both the sending unit and the receiver in one fan by changing the dipswitch settings so that they will respond to a different frequency. This can also be used in case the fans start picking up a signal from another device and responding to it unexpectedly (like a neighbor's fan or garage door opener). There are 8 dipswitches so there are up to 256 possible different settings.
Some tips on ordering our lights / lighting:
Many of the lighting fixtures shown can be ordered as compact fluorescent fixtures for an additional $30 to $40 fee for energy savings. Our lighting fixtures are imported from Europe so please allow adequate lead time in case they are not in stock when you need them. If they are in stock, they will generally ship within 1 week of order from the US.
Ordering considerations: We recommend ordering everything you will need for a smooth fan or lighting installation at one time rather than waiting to order a remote or downrod, for example. This way you can avoid the additional shipping charge of a second small order and you can enjoy your ceiling fan sooner.
Payment options: You can pay by credit card on our secure website which is the fastest method. If you would like to pay by check, we will be happy to take your order by telephone or by fax and then you can mail us your check.
